The Toronto Blue Jays seem to be set on looking to trade Spencer Horwitz this off-season as they do not see him in their lineup next season and the Oakland Athletics seem to be a possible destination.

Horwitz had an incredible rookie season for the Blue Jays especially at the place but unfortunately it is his defensive game that does not fit their plans as they would need him to play second base which does seem to work with him.
According to reports, a trade between the Blue Jays and Athletics could take place in which Horwitz could be part of a package heading back to Oakland while the Blue Jays acquire Brent Rooker.
Taking a look at the potential blockbuster first, adding Rooker would significantly boost the Jays' offensive lineup for 2025. Especially when Toronto ranked just 23rd in the league in runs scored and 26th in home runs for the 2024 season. After all, Rooker put together his best season of his career this year as he batted .293 with a .927 OPS, along with 82 runs scored, 26 doubles, 39 home runs and 112 RBI in 145 games played. In joining the Jays, he can permanently take over the designated hitter role, while making spot starts in the outfield as needed. -Eng

Rooker would be exactly what the Blue Jays are looking for in terms of adding a player with a ton of offensive ability and could truly help them in terms of getting more runs scored after finished the season 23rd in the MLB.
While it would be great to keep Horwitz, he simply does not fit into their future plans as he is best at first base which is presently occupied by the Blue Jays best player which is why Horwitz will be move.
