The Blue Jays announced today that they will be starting the season with Vlad Guerrero Jr. batting 2nd instead of 3rd where he has mostly been in the past.
Blue Jays prefer having Vlad Guerrero Jr. hitting second in batting order to start season
Jays Manager John Schneider confirmed that we will be seeing subtle changes in the batting lineup. George Springer will still be hitting leadoff but we will see Guerrero and Bichette flipping positions between 2nd and 3rd batters.
«To me, there's no real perfect way to slice it when you're talking about those three guys. Pretty sure we're set on how we're going to roll it out.» - Schneider
Guerrero spent 110 games last season as their third hitter while also batting cleanup which will now be the role of Justin Turner to start the season. On the other hand, Bichette hit 2nd 115 times last season but only batted 3rd 7 times.
The Blue Jays manager said that it will be a weird change at first but the idea is to keep the lineup up as it is because the players don't like it when the order switches frequently.
The Blue Jays will have the day off today and then will be heading out to Tampa Bay to begin their season against the Rays.
The First game is Thursday March 28th at Tropicana Field for a 4 game series against the Rays.
