Kevin Gausman is electric in first Spring Training start for Blue Jays
Kevin Gausman made his Spring Training debut for the Toronto Blue Jays today against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and boy, did he not disappoint.
He's STILL NASTY, THREE punchouts in the first for Kevin Gausman
Gausman has been dealing with shoulder fatigue since the start of the Jays 2024 camp, and the stress around having to potentially replace the Blue Jays Ace was a real point of concern. Fans can breathe a sigh of relief as it seems Gausman looks as if he hasn't skipped a beat.

Today the American League Cy Young finalist took the mound against the Pirates today and balled out, throwing 52 pitches before being pulled early in the fourth inning. Gausman recorded seven strikeouts over three innings,
without allowing any runs, conceding only two hits, one of which was an infield single. However, he was removed from the game after giving up a single to Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes to start the fourth inning. He probably could have gone more, but it is smart to ease him back into playing shape.
Last season marked Gausman's second year with the Blue Jays, where he achieved a notable third-place finish in the American League Cy Young voting. Across 185.0 innings pitched, he maintained an impressive 3.16 earned run average and led the league with 237 strikeouts
Jose Berrios will still likely handle opening day duties against the Tampa Bay Rays, but the team has not commented on Gausman getting a turn in the opening rotation just yet.
