Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Jordan Romano had a rough season due to missing the majority of it with a right elbow injury.

During the Blue Jays end of the year press conference held a couple days ago, general manager Ross Atkins about who the team's closer will be heading into 2025 which he mentioned he is not sure yet as they are looking to add a lot of players to their bullpen. Atkins did mention that their are players on the current roster that have the potential to take on that role but was far from giving any guarantees.
«I don't know,» Atkins said when asked who he thought his closer was going to be in 2025. «Like, we will have some guys that are currently on our roster that have done it before and they certainly will be potentially in that role.»

Due to Romano history of injuries the Blue Jays will definitely be looking at other options since a healthy Romano could be a great closer on any team but if he is out due to injury once again, the Blue Jays will be stuck once again.
Atkins added that Romano is a great closer but that he is headed into free agency with an open mind and will be looking at all available closers without any definitive answers made before their assess all posibilities.
«I mean, he's got to come back and be the pitcher (he's been in the past),» Atkins said of Romano, who only appeared in 15 games in 2024, a crushing disappointment for the intensely competitive right hander. «I don't want to just lay my head on the pillow and say OK, that's covered.' I want to be open to it. Depending upon his return, depending upon how he's feeling. But I believe he will. I believe he can.» -Longley

While Romano is not necessarily out, he is also arbitration eligible which means his contract with the Blue Jays next season is far from a guarantee. The biggest worries when it comes to Romano is simply his injury history and his age.
