Ken Rosenthal announces details on Vladimir Guerrero Jr's possible new contract with the Blue Jays
According to reports in Ken Rosenthal's latest article, the Blue Jays are looking at a long term extension that buy Guerrero out of his current deal with his new one beginning this upcoming season.
Ken Rosenthal with a late night Blue Jays bomb. Holy smokes.
This is a smart decision by Ross Atkins as it is pushing Guerrero to consider the deal since it would be giving him a massive pay increase this upcoming season between his buyout and new contract.
The official number that the two parties are discussing has yet to be announced but it is likely to be over $400 million as reports earlier this week suggested that Guerrero is looking for close to $500 million.
The Blue Jays have no choice but to raise their price substantially from the first offer if they want to keep Guerrero in Toronto as most insiders believe that he would be able to get over $500 million in free agency next season.
If Toronto is able to get an extension done with Guerrero in the coming days, this would be a massive benefit to their free agency plans as it would show top tier players that they are all in on trying to win next season.
Hopefully the Blue Jays make Guerrero a real offer this time as another offer below $400 million will likely burn a few bridges and cause him to look at free agency next winter as the only way of getting his true worth.
