The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to improve their starting rotation this off-season and MLB insider Jim Bowden believes they will be trading Chris Bassitt as part of that.

The Blue Jays have spoken of wanting to return to one of the best teams in the American League next season and if they plan on doing that, they will need to make some big changes including moving some of their current players.

Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt might be on his way out

According to MLB insider Jim Bowden, the Blue Jays do not plan on extending Bassitt as he enters the last year of his contract in 2025 and with the numbers he put up last season combined with an expiring contract, he might end up traded.
"The Blue Jays are not going to extend Chris Bassitt, who is signed through next season, so they should move the 35-year-old righty now while he still has trade value," Bowden said. "Bassitt went 10-14 this year with a 4.16 ERA over 31 starts. He posted an inflated WHIP of 1.462 and was worth -0.1 WAR. However, he's pitched at least 170 innings each of the past three seasons, and plenty of teams would take a starter who can provide those innings to save their bullpens."

Last year was by far the worse season of Bassitt's time in Toronto and since he is 35 years old, he will likely continue to decline which is why freeing up a spot in the rotation is a good idea.
He signed a three-year, $63 million deal with the Blue Jays and is heading into his final year of the deal. It's unclear what his long-term future is with the organization. If the Blue Jays don't see him in their long-term plans. It could make sense to deal him to trim payroll a tad and recoup prospects. -McAvoy

If the Blue Jays are able to sign one of the top pitchers on the free agent market such as Max Fried, Blake Snell or Roki Sasaki, replacing Bassitt with one of these players will make a massive difference next season.
