The MLB announced yesterday that prospect Cesar Altagracia that was set to sign with the San Diego Padre lied about his age which has resulted in an investigation by the Dominican Baseball Federation.

Altagarcia has represent the Dominican Republic at the U12 Baseball World Cup in 2022 and at the U15 Pan American Championship this past summer with his false documents.

MLB discovers prospect that was set to sign with the Padres lied about his age

The young player stated that he was 14 years old on his documents when he is actually 19 years old which ended up cancelling the deal with the Padres. Alatagarcia had verbally agreed to a $4 million deal with the Padres which who has became official in January 2027 when he turned 16 years old and was legally allowed to but it turns out he turned 16 3 years ago.
The teenager, who assumed the name Cesar Altagracia, verbally agreed to sign with the Padres for about $4 million, a substantial bonus that signified he was considered one of the top international prospects in his class. The transaction would have become official in January 2027, once Altagracia became eligible to sign as a 16-year-old international free agent. -Castillio and Gonzalez

The MLB and the Padres have declined to comment on the situation but it has been announced that the Dominican Baseball Federation is currently investigating the situation.
