The Toronto Blue Jays are still looking to add a solid hitter to their lineup regardless if Vladimir Guerrero Jr stays or not and it looks like that player might be free agent Pete Alonso.
The Blue Jays see bringing in offense as a necessity for next season after their struggles at the plate in 2024 which is why they have pivoted toward Alonso since things seem to have fallen through with Anthony Santander.

According to reports, the Blue Jays are very interested in signing free agent Pete Alonso this off-season even if they end up keeping Guerrero since the two together would give them a huge boost in offense.

While the Mets were originally seen as the favorites to land Alonso, things have shifted as they have decided to sign Jesse Winker which many believe is them saying they will not bring Alonso back.
The Mets have pivoted to plan B, post-Alonso. They now consider it the most likely outcome that Alonso will sign elsewhere. They add Winker and will add a reliever, possibly a top one.
This is incredible news for the Blue Jays as it means they are now among the top two teams to land Alonso which means there is a real chance a deal gets done.
