Former Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons admitted in an interview prior to game 3 of the American League Championship Series that he is using his experiences in Toronto to help the Mets.

John Gibbons is currently the bench coach for the New York Mets as they are one of 4 teams left in the MLB playoffs and are headed into game 3 against the powerhouse Los Angeles Dodgers is a series tied at one game a piece.

Gibbons saw the Mets fall to 24-35 this season before getting the team to step up their game and go on a run that led them to a Wild Card and said thatthis run reminded him off the run the Blue Jays had in 2013 despite both teams having very different outcomes.
Midway through the 2013 season, the errant Toronto Blue Jays seemed to have found their way. A franchise-record tying 11-game win streak from June 11-23 had not only dug them out of an early hole, but had pushed them two games over .500. Only instead of taking off from there, they floundered, falling back under the break-even point for good on July 2, ending up 74-88 in a season of misery. -Davidi

The former Blue Jays manager admitted that the main difference between these two teams was that the Mets this season had a lot less pressure to deliver since most fans did not expect much from this team after how their 2023 season went.
«Coming into this season, we thought we had in shot at getting in - the wild card is a beautiful thing - but I don't think our fans did really, after last year. That probably kept the heat off of us and allowed our guys to just play relaxed. And then our starting pitchers just took off. That's the key to everything.»

Clearly the Mets have been turning heads all season as they got into a Wild Card spot and have not looked back as they are now tied at 1-1 in their series against the Dodgers as they look to push passed them to head to the World Series.
