In 2022, Toronto Blue Jay Alek Manoah emerged as one of the premier pitchers in all of baseball. Though, after being a couple years removed from his cy young caliber season, he is now in the minors (A-affiliate) and struggling. With interest from Pittsburgh, should the Jays consider trading him to the Pirates?
Why the Pirates should consider going after Manoah
Manoah's recent struggles aside, he's a young pitcher with All-Star potential, still just 26. The Pirates could benefit from bolstering their 40-man roster with his depth.
While Paul Skenes may get called up soon, injuries could leave the Pirates relying on Domingo German or Eric Lauer until Mike Burrows returns in the second half of the season.
The Pirates also traded Jackson Wolf after designating him for assignment, further depleting their potential starting options.
If he can get back to what he was able to do in 2022, it may be wise to let him go now and get some potential assets in return, as of right now he taking up money and doing nothing for the organization.
This could happen, but would we want to see him go right now!?
