The Toronto Blue Jays had a nice surprise in terms of third baseman Ernie Clement's game this past season and as he is likely part of the team's future plan, they need him to make some big changes to his game.
Clement had a breakout year at third base for the Blue Jays which earned him the honor of being named a Gold Glove finalist even though the chance of him winning are very small. While he had a great year defensively, Clement struggled at the plate and the Blue Jays need him to drastically improve this off-season in terms of hitting.
Blue Jays have big plans for Ernie Clement but need him to improve his hitting
The Blue Jays third baseman was great defensively which has secured him a spot with the team in 2025 but he will need to seriously work on his hitting during the winter if he wants to keep him spot on the roster. Last season he finished with a .263 batting average and .284 on base percentage to go along with a .692 OPS which is not terrible but the Blue Jays need more out of him if they plan on winning next season.
Third base: 661 innings. 10 errors, .954 FA (league average .961). URZ had him at a 0.0/150 and +3 in outs above average. -Dakers
Clearly Clement is part of the plans moving forward but that his game still does need improving over the off-season especially when it comes to hitting.
