After a rough year on and off the field for Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Erik Swanson, it looks like the team will have him returning for the 2025 season despite being on a very short leash.
Swanson was acquired by the Blue Jays in the trade that sent Teoscar Hernandez to Seattle and despite having a great first year in Toronto, the 2024 season was a completely different story for Swanson.
Acquired at the end of the 2022 season in mid-November, the Blue Jays sent fan-favourite Teoscar Hernández to the Seattle Mariners for Swanson and left-handed pitching prospect Adam Macko. -Delaney
Blue Jays pitcher Erik Swanson seems to be returning to the 2025 season
Swanson struggled in the first half of the season with his ERA jumping to 9.22 at one point in the season which saw him go down to Triple-A where he considered to pitch poorly. The Blue Jays brought Swanson back up near the end of July where he seem to figure out his problems as he would go on to have a 2.55 ERA in the second half of the season ending the year with a 5.03 ERA overall.
From that date until the end of the season, Swanson posted a much more respectable 2.55 ERA and a 4.95 FIP in 24.2 innings pitched, along with a 27.6 K% and a 10.2 BB%. He wasn't perfect by any means, the long ball was something he still struggled with (1.82 HR/9 during this time), but with a normalized HR/FB ratio, his xFIP sat at a much better 3.54. -Delaney
