The Blue Jays have quite a few players to decide on prior to the Rule 5 Draft which takes place on November 19th, in less than a month.
The Rule 5 Draft allows teams to draft players without a 40 man roster spot and players become eligible for the draft 5 years after signing if they are 18 years old and 4 years after signing if they are 19 years old.
The Blue Jays have some crucial decision to make regarding a few prospects prior to Rule 5 Draft
A player is able to avoid being draft by another team if he is put on the team's 40 man roster and with only so many spots, the Blue Jays will have to decide which players are worth protecting.
One of the top options in terms on necessity to protect in the organization in catcher Phil Clarke who has been solid in triple-a last season especially at the plate but struggled defensively but since the team does not have many catchers, he should be a priority.
Last season, the 26-year-old catcher slashed .307/.421/.366 with no home runs in 121 Double-A plate appearances, along with a 13.2 BB% and a 4.1 K%. He didn't do as well once reaching Triple-A, slashing .230/.352/.323 with three home runs in 193 plate appearances, along with a 14 BB% and a 14.5 K%. -Delaney
The player that has the best chance of being added to the 40 man roster on this list is Damiano Palmegiani as he had a great season in triple-a in 2024 as he led the team in homeruns with 19 and has a real chance at playing in the majors.
Damiano Palmegiani is the first prospect we've looked at so far who has a legitimate chance of being added to the 40-man roster. -Delaney
Dasan Brown is a player that the Blue Jays should look at protecting as well since he will surely garner interest from multiple other teams if left unprotected.
It's a matter of when, not if, Dasan Brown makes the big league roster. The question is, in what capacity? -Delaney
