When Barger was initially called up to the big leagues, the Blue Jays had toons of optimism for him to make a major impact right away, but unfortunately this was not the case as he went 1-18 to start his career. He was sent back down to continue his development in Triple-A.
In his 3rd stint with the Jays something was clearly different, but in a very good way. In his 29 appearances since getting another opportunity with the Jays in late July, Barger has not looked back. He has achieved an elite .800 OPS, good for a 121 wRC+ over that period.
With the Blue Jays no longer in the race to make the postseason, the month of September acts as kind of a tryout for young players to showcase their skills in the majors without the pressure of winning. And if any prospect take a page out of the Barger handbook, they will do just fine.
