It was back in 1975 when the city of Toronto became the subject of the league, as it was rumored to be the next location for a new team in the MLB. As Toronto was making its debut into the world of baseball, the San Francisco Giants were said to be on their way to becoming "The Toronto Giants".
After three years in a row of the leagues lowest game attendance in San Francisco, the Giants Organization knew that something had to be done about their exposure. One way was to introduce the team to a brand new audience.
At the end of the speculation regarding the Giants move, it was legalities and politics that eventually cemented the team in San Francisco history for the next 50 years. It was the Toronto Star's September Scoop that gave weight to the rumors of the possible Toronto Giants, but as baseball fans around North America continued to wonder about the decision to move the team there, it ultimately ended with the creation of the Toronto Blue Jays. Although the Giants were originally in a bad situation in regards to their future with the MLB, it seems as though they powered through the lack of audience and continued their legacy up to date, now a prominent and well known team to this day.
