Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher has done it again as he sets the record for the most strikeouts by a rookie as his amazing continues season continues.

There was a funny scene that came out of Skenes counting the amount of strikeouts he had in his home dugout to confirm that he did break the record.
In the home dugout at PNC Park after Paul Skenes' evening was done, Bailey Falter asked the rookie how many strikeouts he had on the evening. Skenes claimed to forget, so he started to add up the tally on the Kennametal strikeout counter, mouthing to himself.
He also achieved this amazing feat in only 12 innings pitched where he has racked up 151 K's. He got it the final punch out in the 6th innings vs the Miami Marlins where they took there win 3-2.
Pirates manager had high praise for his young rookie pitcher when he broke the record.
«I can't think of anybody I've seen that's been that strikeout-heavy, especially early in their career,» manager Derek Shelton said. «I've watched guys that have done it that have been elite pitchers throughout their careers, but I don't know that I remember anybody being a rookie that has been like that.»

«It's a game and I think the biggest thing is focused on being in the moment and staying present,» Skenes said. «All that other stuff is cool, but I think that's a product of being in the moment and staying present over the course of the season. Just executing individual pitches and then that kind of shows up when you start tallying that stuff up.»

There is a very good chance that Skenes wins the rookie of the year award with his immaculate season and it is well deserved.
