The Toronto Blue Jays have missed out on another golden opportunity as the Chicago Cubs have trade outfielder Cody Bellinger to the New York Yankees.

The Blue Jays were apparently interested in possibly trading for Bellinger as they are still looking for a solid a solid hitter this off-season and there were rumors of a possible trade happening.

Blue Jays miss out on Cody Bellinger as blockbuster trade goes down between the Cubs and Yankees

The Cubs have been looking to trade Bellinger ever since he accepted his player option at the end of the season and despite many teams being interested, it looks like he is headed to the Yankees.
MLB insider Jeff Passan announced the news just now that the Yankees have agreed to a trade with the Cubs for the former MVP who still has two more years remaining on his contract.
BREAKING: OF/1B Cody Bellinger has been traded from the Chicago Cubs to the New York Yankees, sources tell ESPN. Bellinger, 29, is a former MVP and has two years remaining on his contract with an opt-out after 2025. Yankees continue to be aggressive post-Juan Soto.

Along with Bellinger is some cash headed to the Yankees as well which totals $5 million with $2.5 million going towards his salary while the other $2.5 million in for a buyout in case they decide not to keep him for the rest of his contract.
Of the $5 million the Cubs are sending to the Yankees in the Cody Bellinger trade, $2.5 million will cover his 2025 salary, per source. The remaining $2.5 million will either cover the buyout if he doesn't exercise his player option for 2026 or Bellinger's 2026 salary if he does.
In exchange, the Cubs will be receiving right handed reliever Cody Poteet who pitched 24.1 innings last season for the Yankees with a 2.22 ERA and 16 strikeouts.
Full trade, per ESPN sources: Cody Bellinger and cash go to the New York Yankees, right-handed reliever Cody Poteet goes to the Chicago Cubs.
Clearly if the Blue Jays were willing to take on Bellinger's massive salary, they could have gotten him for not much of a return.
