The Toronto Blue Jays new hitting coach David Popkins had some refreshing ideas that he spoke of in an interview today and he is looking to help the team improve on their offense from last season.
The Blue Jays had a horrendous offense last season season which is why they decided to clean house with the majority of their coaches and brought in new ones such as Popkins.

When the Blue Jays hired Popkins, many players from his former team on the Minnesota Twins had nothing but good things to say about him as it looked like the Blue Jays brought in the right man for the job.
During a recent interview with Keegan Matheson, Popkins stated that he has told the players to take more chances when they are in a good count even if that means chasing a few balls.

Popkins stated that the mentality behind this is that he wants to remind the players that are hitting to make the pitcher feel like he is being attacked which he believes is a big part of the game.
This new strategy could be great for the Blue Jays especially for players such as Bo Bichette and George Springer who are clearly great hitters but had a tough time last season.
Young players such as Joey Loperfido, Davis Schneider, Will Wagner and Alan Roden can also benefit from these new ideas as they are still getting used to major league pitching.
It will be interesting to see how the Blue Jays offense ends up doing under Popkins' leadership in his first season in Toronto.
