The Toronto Blue Jays are still in contract negotiations with Vladimir Guerrero Jr and it looks like they have upped their offer but it is still not what he is looking for.
The Blue Jays have given a few offers to Guerrero, the first coming a few weeks ago, where they offered him $340 million right before Juan Soto signed but he rejected the contract.
The Blue Jays have made a second offer to Vladimir Guerrero Jr
According to reports, TSN's Scott Mitchell confirmed that the Blue Jays have made at least three offers to Guerrero throughout this negotiation but none have touched the number he is looking for.
Mitchell stated that there has been three offers that he is aware of, one on a 10 year term which was like the $340 million offer, another on a 11 year term and now the most recent offer that seems to be the largest that includes a ton of deferred money.
There was apparently one 10-year (offer), one 11-year one, and one that came with a whole lot of deferred money, which the Vladdy camp was not interested in any sort of deferred money. -Mitchell
Apparently it looks like Guerrero is not interested in taking deferred money but even then the Blue Jays have not brought their offer high enough just yet as he is looking for at least $450 million and their offers have yet to surpass $400 million.
Mitchell also noted that the Jays haven't been close to what their superstar first baseman wants and they haven't reached the $400 million mark as of yet. -Delaney
Guerrero has made it clear that if they match his number that he would sign on the spot but has been open about the fact that they are nowhere near the price he is looking for.
Guerrero Jr. has said that the Jays aren't close to what he wants, but if they match his price, he'll sign on the spot. That came in an interview with Abrideno Sports a few weeks back. -Delaney
As the deadline closes in, the Blue Jays seem to be heading into a tough situation with Guerrero as they do not want to pay him what he is looking for but he was been adamant that he will not sign for less.
The Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins seems to be pushing himself into a corner with Guerrero and it is starting to look very bad.
