The Blue Jays clear won the Yimi Garcia trade at the 2024 trade deadline
At the 2024 trade deadline, the Blue Jays trade Yimi Garcia to the Seattle Mariners for two great prospects in outfielder Jonatan Clase and catcher Jacob Sharp.
In the trade with the Mariners, the Jays had received two promising prospects in outfielder Jonatan Clase and catcher Jacob Sharp.
Clase even ended up debuting for his team towards the end of September, as he batted a solid .350 with a .985 OPS, along with three runs scored, one double, one home run and two RBI in seven total games played. -Eng
Clase actually got to make his Blue Jays debut in September and had 1 homerun with 5 RBIs in 61 at bats before the end of the season in the major leagues.
Sharp on the other hand was sent to high-A ball in which he put up solid numbers but more importantly gave the Blue Jays an extra catcher which they have very few of in their system.
Once Garcia arrived in Seattle, his game declines quite a bit as he had a 6.00 ERA in 10 relief appearances before missing the rest of the season due to an elbow inflammation injury.
In terms of what Garcia ended up providing the Mariners, he actually struggled mightily with Seattle following the deadline. In 10 relief appearances, he posted a dismal 6.00 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, giving up six earned runs on seven hits, including three home runs, along with four walks and seven strikeouts in just nine innings of work. -Eng
The fact that the Blue Jays were able to get two solid prospects out of this trade and get Garcia back on a solid contract in free agency proves exactly how they won this trade.
