The shocking reason behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr turning down the Blue Jays $500 million offer was announced
Reasoning behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr rejecting the Blue Jays $500 million offer announced
Blue Jays fans have been trying to figure out why in the world
Guerrero would turn down a $500 million contract since the news broke and MLB insider Shi Davidi finally broke the news.
According to reports, the Blue Jays were still about $50 million away from how much Guerrero was looking for as he wanted closer to $550 million which is why he decided to turn the offer down before Spring Training.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays were roughly $50 million apart in their final offers during unsuccessful extension talks last month - a separation that averages out to $3.571 million a season over a proposed 14 years. -Davidi
Fans online have been already questioning
Guerrero's loyalty to the team if $50 million on a $500 million contract is truly what kept him from signing an extension with the Blue Jays.
So Vladimir Guerrero Jr essentially stood infront of a group of reporters and blatantly lied about the Blue Jays offer not being "close". A $50MM gap when you're talking about a contract in the $500 million range is not a big gap whatsoever.
Since $50 million is what kept Guerrero from signing, most now believe that the chances of Guerrero returning are slim since it looks like he always wanted to enter free agency regardless of how much he was offered.
Via Shi Davidi's latest article... it may truly be the last dance.
Should be an interesting 2025 season with all of this information out in the open.
