MLB cheats Blue Jays rookie Spencer Horwitz out of a rookie of the year nomination
The MLB announced that Colton Cowser, Austin Wells and Luis Gil were the three finalists for the 2024 American League Rookie of the Year award.
2024 AL Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Award finalists:
Colton Cowser (BAL) Luis Gil (NYY) Austin Wells (NYY)
While Cowser is an obvious nomination after putting up incredible numbers for the Baltimore Orioles this season with 24 homeruns, 69 RBIs, .242 batting average and a .321 on base percentage, the other to finalist are much less of a lock.
Austin Wells finished the season 13 homeruns, 55 RBIs, .229 batting average and .322 on base percentage in almost 20 more games than Horwitz which proves that he could easily take Wells' spot.
Luis Gil on the other hand is a little harder to compare since he's a pitcher but when looking at his numbers on the season, one can tell that Horwitz was a bigger factor for his team than Gil was.

It is clear that Horwitz should at least be a finalist even if the clear winning is Cowser because of his incredible 2024 season.
