The Toronto Blue Jays are still looking at all possible options for the 2025 season since they have yet to make a mark in free agency and Alex Bregman still seems at the top of their list.
As multiple rumors still surround shortstop Bo Bichette, acquiring Bregman to play third base for the Blue Jays next season is starting to make more and more sense for the team.
The Blue Jays could end up benefiting from signing Alex Bregman
The Blue Jays have been linked to Bregman since the start of the off-season as they were in serious need of infielders but that has slowed down a bit since the acquisition on Andres Gimenez.
Despite this new addition, the Blue Jays could still benefit from signing Bregman since he could play third base and if the Blue Jays do trade Bichette, this would allow them to move Ernie Clement over to shortstop.
Third base has been a long-term issue since Josh Donaldson was traded in 2018. It didn't matter in rebuilding years, especially with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. coming up, but he didn't pan out at the position and they've been needing a long-term solution at the position since. Matt Chapman gave them temporary relief, but it was one of their biggest holes in the 2024 season. -Delaney
While many believe that Bregman is on the decline, he still had an impressive 2024 season with the Houston Astros with a .2260 batting average and .315 on base percentage to go along with his third season in a row of over 23 homeruns.
Last season with the Houston Astros, Bregman slashed .260/.315/.453 with 26 home runs in 634 plate appearances, with a career-low 6.9 BB% and a 13.6 K%. He finished the season with a 118 wRC+ and a 4.1 fWAR. -Delaney
The Blue Jays need offensive help which is why Bregman could make a ton of sense for them on top of his solid defensive game which would give them a reliable third baseman.
While some fans might believe he is not worth the money, he is numbers over the past few years have proven otherwise.
