MLB insider Jon Heyman believes the Blue Jays should make a massive offer to free agent Corbin Burnes
In a recent report, Jon Heyman stated that the Blue Jays should be looking to make an offer worth $247 million over 9 years to free agent pitcher Corbin Burnes which would be an average salary of $27.4 million per season.
"In addition, they should sign Burnes to a nine-year, $247 million contract to head their rotation. If the Blue Jays could afford to make massive free-agent offers to the likes of Shohei Ohtani last year and Juan Soto this year, why not pivot and add Burnes and Bregman? It would go a long way in making Toronto a contender in 2025 and beyond." -Heyman
Heyman is a strong believer that the Blue Jays should make a massive offer to Burnes and could afford it since they were willing to offer Juan Soto $760 million and Shohei Ohtani $700 million last season which is why they could afford this for Burnes.
It is easy to understand why this move would make sense for the Blue Jays since this would surely convince Burnes to leave the Giants behind and would give the Blue Jays an outstanding ace pitcher for a long time.
Heyman is also a strong believer that the Blue Jays should go after free agent Alex Bregman as well despite his decline in play as he could help add a ton of offense to the Blue Jays lineup.
Clearly landing Burnes plus an offensive threat like Bregman would help the Blue Jays next season but most fans would prefer them signing with Anthony Santander or Teoscar Hernandez instead of Bregman.
Which ever option the Blue Jays choose, if they plan on bringing in big time players they need to stop thinking with a budget friendly mindset and need to start making moves that will benefit the team regardless of the price tag.
