Springer likely losing role as lead off hitter next year #bluejays #mlb

The Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer is one of the most decorated lead off hitters in MLB history but it looks that his time hitting number 1 might be ending.

Springer signed a $150 million contract with the Blue Jays in 2021 as they saw him as their number 1 hitter for many years to come but this season took an unexpected turn as he struggled at the plate even being the worst qualified hitter in the MLB half way through the year.
This season has been incredibly frustrating and largely inconsistent at one point Springer was the worst qualified hitter in the majors. The Blue Jays took necessary action and moved him down the lineup. They moved him to seventh at one point, the lowest he's ever hit. Despite a small sample size of five games Springer batted .467 with two homers, four RBI and .600 OBP. -Shipton

While there is no guarantee that Springer will be losing his role as lead off hitter, as his game continues to decline, the Blue Jays might be forced to look elsewhere for a better option.
The Blue Jays do not have a ton of option with experienced lead off hitters on their team to replace Springer but one option could be Bo Bichette as he has done it in the past.
Bichette could definitely be a solid option for next season but with all the rumors surrounding him for next year, it is not even a guarantee he will be in Toronto for Opening Day.
Some would argue that the Blue Jays don't have a natural leadoff hitter who can replace him but Bo Bichette has had experience of batting there before in 2021 batting .262 with a home run and two stolen bases. Not to mention the fact that Jonatan Clase just went 3-for-3 with a home run and a walk in his first start in the leadoff spot on Wednesday night. That performance alone may have earned him another look there. -Shiptton
