Horwitz had a great rookie season with the Blue Jays after being brought up on June 8th after dominating the minor leagues and due to some injuries, he finally got his chance in the majors.
Spencer Horwitz should have been All-Rookie first team ahead of Michael Busch
Many believe that Horwitz should have gotten nominated to the All-Rookie First Team ahead of the Chicago Cubs Michael Busch but was cheated out of that spot due to Busch playing more games. When Horwitz got called up in mid June, Busch had already 59 games played in Chicago.
By the time Horwitz made his 2024 season debut on June 8, Busch had already appeared in 59 games for the Cubs. The Chicago rookie, and former first-round pick, ended up with 152 games amassing 2.3 fWAR. Horwitz was right behind him with 1.9 fWAR, but in only 97 games. -Fisher
Despite having played more games than Horwitz, the stats prove how Horwitz had a better season overall especially at the plate basically beating Busch in every important batting category.
Horwitz finished the year with a better wRC+ (127 to 119), wOBA (.344 to .336), batting average (.265 to .248), OBP (.357 to .335) and OPS (.790 to .775). -Fisher
Even among all first baseman, Horwitz had the sixth best on base percentage in the entire like with a minimum on 350 plate appearance as his OBP sat at .357 at the end on the season.
Clearly Horwitz was deserving of first team honors over Busch.
