The Toronto Blue Jays are looking at bringing in a starting pitcher this off-season to help their current rotation and former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty seems to be near the top of the list.
Flaherty had a solid season in 2024 in which he split between the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers, ending the year with a 3.17 ERA and 194 strikeouts as well as helping the Dodgers win the World Series.
Blue Jays interested in World Series winning pitcher Jack Flaherty
The Blue Jays starting rotation clearly needs help after a rocky 2024 season where they battled with consistency issues and even their best pitcher Kevin Gausman had an off year after an incredible one in 2023.
The Blue Jays could be interested in Flaherty if they don't end up getting their way with some of the top pitchers on the market such as Max Fried who they seem to be very interested in and Corbin Burnes.
Flaherty isn't the best starter available, but when healthy, he is reliable. Coming off a World Series victory, Flaherty is going to get paid and he is one of the better pitchers available on the mid-level market. -Delaney
While Flaherty might not be their first option, he could end up being a very reliable pitcher for the Blue Jays if things with Max Fried fail.
It's been widely reported this off-season that the Blue Jays are looking to add a starting pitcher. They've been linked to Max Fried, Blake Snell (before he signed), Luis Severino, Corbin Burnes, and many others. -Delaney
According to Bob Nightengale, during the 2107-2018 off-season, the Blue Jays came close to acquiring Flaherty in a trade involving Josh Donaldson but they ended up decline it.
According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Blue Jays declined an offer that included Flaherty for Josh Donaldson during the 2017-18 off-season. That is less than ideal in hindsight. -Delaney
The greatest thing to happen to the #Stlcards was the #Bluejays' rejection of the Cards' trade proposal this winter for Josh Donaldson. They offered two players, a Jays official said, that included rookie of year candidate Jack Flaherty. The Jays turned it down.
