The Toronto Blue Jays are in serious trouble after missing out on a few more free agents and still being miles away on a contract extension with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
The Blue Jays need to add a solid hitter now more than ever after it was originally to to pair with Guerrero for next season but if they end up not coming to an agreement and moving him, the Blue Jays definitely need to add a solid bat.
The Blue Jays are further then ever from signing Vladimir Guerrero Jr
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. said the Toronto Blue Jays recently made him an offer in the area of $340 million that «is not even close to what we are looking for,» and added, during an interview Sunday on the Spanish-language Abriendo El Podcast, that he'll cut off extension talks once spring training arrives. -Sportsnet
The Blue Jays are aware of exactly how much Guerrero wants to sign for and he has stated that the numbers they have been talking about is not even close to what he wants which will likely cause serious rift between the two parties.
«Obviously, things have happened,» Guerrero said in Spanish and translated into English by Sportsnet, when asked why he hasn't signed an extension with the Blue Jays. «But they have not reached the price that (I am) looking for, not even close.» -Guerrero
Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins does not seem to understand that the more he continues to try and push a lower number, the more he will push Guerrero to want to test the free agent market next season.
They need to figure out if they want to keep him or not, if they do, they simply need to offer him what he wants and if they truly believe it is too much money, they need to start making calls to trade him.
Atkins has managed this entire Guerrero situation in the worse way possible and it will end up putting the Blue Jays in a terrible situation over the next few years.
