The Toronto Blue Jays seem to be trying to pivot rather quickly after missing out on Roki Sasaki as they seem very interested once again in signing free agent Jack Flaherty.

The Blue Jays were all in on trying to sign Roki Sasaki but unfortunately failed as he announced last night that he decided to sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers instead.

The Blue Jays pivot off of Roki Sasaki and are back to aiming at Jack Flaherty

The Blue Jays starting rotation already has five pitchers but with how last season went, they ideally want to add a solid pitcher to their rotation and send Yariel Rodriguez to the bullpen.
The Jays already have five starters in Chris Bassitt, Jose Berrios, Kevin Gausman, Bowden Francis and Yariel Rodriguez, but they are evidently looking to upgrade. If they were able to land a starter, they could potentially put Rodriguez in the bullpen, helping strengthen that unit which was one of the worst in baseball last season. -Farkas

Prior to the Sasaki situation the Blue Jays were interested in quite a few free agent pitchers but at the top of the list it seemed to be Jack Flaherty who is still available.
As for starting pitcher options still available? Jack Flaherty and Nick Pivetta probably sit at the top of the market, though Pivetta comes with an annoying qualifying offer attached. Andrew Heaney, Jose Quintana, and Lance Lynn are also still available but only Quintana is probably a definitive upgrade over Rodriguez. -Farkas

Flaherty is coming off an incredible season with the Dodgers in which he finished with a 3.17 ERA and 13-7 record while also helping the Dodgers beat the Yankees to win the World Series.
While many believe that signing a solid hitter is more of a pressing issue for the Blue Jays which it seems to be, adding a strong pitcher to their starting rotation looks to be almost just as important.
If the Blue Jays do sign a starting pitcher this off-season, Flaherty is by far the top choice from the pitchers this available.
