Baseball editor Brandon Wile at The Score are questioning the decision by the Toronto Blue Jays to award Vladimir Guerrero Jr's one year deal and questions why they won't give him the contract he is seeking.
Future of the Blues Jays hang in the balance with Guerrero's contract
Both men feel that the Blue Jays need to accept they've lost some leverage with their superstar and take the opportunity to sign him to a long-term contract which will settle the team down and give their current construction a road map to help building the team back into a contender.

Sometimes it's OK to admit you've lost your leverage and accept it. That's where the Blue Jays' front office finds itself with Guerrero. The opportunity to sign him to a long-term extension earlier in his career is gone, and the market is totally different after Juan Soto's contract. It's time to throw out whatever evaluation they had and just get a deal done. - Brandon Wile The Score
It seems all the power sits in Guerrero's hands as he was seeking $450 million which would put him at a third richest contract in Major League Baseball.
The 26-year-old has never been higher in his value even though many feel that a first baseman should not be paid that kind of money. It's clear that baseball has changed and young stars like Guerrero will get the money they want.
This was hammered home by Red Sox president Sam Kennedy when he told NESN on how the market is driving by different factors including paying the money for a certain type of player.
"The market is driven by different factors. To get a player, you have to pay a certain price," Red Sox president Sam Kennedy told NESN on Saturday when speaking generally about free agency. "So, you didn't overpay, you paid what you need to pay to get the player." Sam Kennedy Red Sox president
Blue Jays management needs to put their money where their mouth is
The Blue Jays organization has been flailing for the past couple of years and after the team enjoyed some playoff success back in the mid twenty 10s, Blue Jays fans have been sitting waiting for their team to break out and become a contender once again.
It seem clear they need to pay Vladimir Guerrero Jr what
he deserves as he is a superstar in this league and that any team that could afford him would go after him after this season.
Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins and president Mark Shapiro need to make the right call and sign Guerrero.
Considering the Blue Jays and Rogers have spent over $300 million in renovating the Rogers Centre, and ownership willing to spend the money to put a contender on the field it's safe to say that it's time to pay this man his money and plot out the next steps to make the Blue Jays a great team once again.
