The Blue Jays have until tomorrow night to decide if they will keep pitcher Jordan Romano
Romano had a very difficult season in 2024 as he appeared in only 15 games for the Blue Jays in which he finished the year with a 6.59 ERA and also dealt with multiple set back in his injury recovery.
In a 2024 season that didn't go as planned for almost every Jays player not named Vlad Guerrero Jr., Romano appeared in just 15 games, never getting things right as he slipped to an ERA of 6.59. -Longley
Toronto's front office has a massive decision to make since they have to decide by Friday's 7PM non-tender deadline if they will pay him his expected $7.5 million next season or if they will let him walk.
For the Jays, the Romano situation is far from simple given that the 31-year-old right hander is projected to earn close to $7.75 million US prior to next season. Complicating the issue is the fact that the Markham, Ont., native both began and ended the 2024 season on the injury list. -Longley
The Blue Jays could non-tender Romano but still bring him back if they are able to negotiate a deal with him at a lower salary but he would be able to make the final decision on that move.
If the front-office decides to let him walk, they could either look like heroes if Romano ends up putting up terrible numbers in 2025 on a new team or can look terrible if he returns to the pitcher he was prior to 2024.
