The Toronto Blue Jays are still trying to figure out if they will be able to get a contract extension done with Vladimir Guerrero Jr but it is not looking good after the latest update.
The Blue Jays seem to have overplayed their hand when it comes to Guerrero as they could have come to an easy agreement a while ago but as they continue to let things drag on, the two parties seem to further than ever from closing a deal.
The Blue Jays negotiations with Vladimir Guerrero Jr has taken another bad turn
The Blue Jays were supposed to meet with Guerrero a few days ago in person to try and get a deal contract extension done even if they already know his price and that he will not budge.
The Jays are meeting with Vlad Jr this week to see if an extension is possible- they have kept tabs on Alonso. Jays want to know if locking up Vlad is possible before ST. If not- things could happen quickly on their front.
Unfortunately that meeting never ended up taking place and it has now gotten pushed off until next week but the reasoning behind that has yet to be announced.
It sounds like Jays are meeting with Vlad sometime next week - see if a long term extension is possible- In person meeting.
While the reasoning behind the postponing of the meeting can simply be a timing issue, there is also a possibility that Guerrero has a hard time seeing the point in a meeting.
Guerrero has been clear on how much he is looking for and that he will not budge from that number as he knows he will be able to get it next off-season.
Hopefully Atkins is able to pull off a miracle at this meeting and get a deal done but it does not look likely at this point.
