It's more complicated than that opt out, options, incentives, bonuses etc. but I get the sense it's all wrapped up, could be announced today even.
The Blue Jays raise their offer to free agent Pete Alonso
The Blue Jays have made it clear they are all in on trying to land Alonso this off-season which is why they have been so quick to raise their offer less than 24 hours after the first one was made.
Reports came out late last night that the offer to Alonso now exceeds $75 million which means the Blue Jays have now gone up from their first offer to the all-star first baseman.
BREAKING: First baseman Pete Alonso and the #BlueJays are nearing an agreement on a contract, sources tell MLB Scoops. The deal is expected to exceed $75 million over three years. The Polar Bear finds himself in Canada.
If the Blue Jays can somehow manage to close on Alonso for anywhere close to $25 million, it would be an incredible deal that would greatly improve their offense for next season.
While the Blue Jays are said to be the favorites to land Alonso, after how the majority of this off-season has gone, fans will only believe this is real once Ross Atkins officially signs a deal.
