The Toronto Blue Jays seem to be right on the verge of signing Corbin Burnes but are still waiting on an answer from him but things do seem to be trending in the right direction.
The Blue Jays currently have the highest offer on the table for Burnes but he ahs yet to sign as he is hoping his hometown team, the San Francisco Giants will match the offer.
Positive new update for the Blue Jays regarding free agent pitcher Corbin Burnes
The Blue Jays have been been targeting Burnes for quite some time now but have yet to close a deal as he is hoping that the Giants would raise their offer to match the Blue Jays but it does not seem like it will happen.
The Blue Jays reportedly made Burnes an offer over $250 million with the exact term unknown and as it has been more than a week since the offer, many believe San Francisco is unwilling to match it.
The Blue Jays have an instant edge, as it's no secret the division rival Orioles don't plan on spending Burnes money. Burnes reportedly wants upwards on $250 million - so similar to the contract Stephen Strasburg received with the Washington Nationals a half-decade ago. -Powell
Burnes was looking for a contract of around $245 million which the Blue Jays have clearly surpassed and now all they need is for the Giants to not match it which at this point seems unlikely.
"The Giants were said to be very interested," Feinsaid said. "I was told they had an offer out there that did not quite approach that number. It remains to be seen if they are willing to move that number up or potentially move elsewhere and look for other alternatives." -Feinsand
The Blue Jays seem to be right there in terms of landing Burnes and there is not a higher likelihood that they land him than him signing elsewhere.
Fans in Toronto would be ecstatic if the Blue Jays are able to land the best free agent pitcher on the market.
