Toronto Blue Jays general manager recently spoke on his plan regarding catchers once again and double down stating he is happy with Alejandro Kirk and Tyler Heineman.
Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins states they will not be going after any catchers this off-season
Atkins was asked yesterday if he had any plans to go after a catcher during free agency to which he stated once again that he is happy with their current duo of Kirk and Heineman. He added that in an ideal world he would love to get a left handed hitting catcher but that all those players are locked into contracts on teams that will not move them so they will stay with the catchers they currently have.
Seems like we're good with our current catching situation.

Kirk is a solid number 1 catcher but the reason so many believe that the Blue Jays should go after another one is because he will be taking on a much bigger role this year since Heineman is not a legit MLB catcher. As he plays more games, Kirk will be at risk of a possible injury and if that happens, the Blue Jays do not happy a very large depth chart in terms of catchers in their organization especially with the departure of Brian Serven.
This decision to not sign any catchers could end up being a massive problem for the Blue Jays if Kirk deals with any kind of injury and Heineman becomes the number 1 catcher.
Atkins seems sold on this plan but it is hard to see how any of it makes sense when looking at the bigger picture.
