The Blue Jays manager John Schneider has announced that pitcher Ricky Tiedemann is "in the mix" for making the opening day roster.
Tiedemann has been impressing the Blue Jays management at Spring Training as he has put up solid numbers. The 22 year-old has 1 win in 6 IP, 5.40 ERA, with 8 strikeouts and a 1.35 WHIP. These numbers have pushed him into the conversation of making the Blue Jays pitching lineup.

Tiedemann committed to play college baseball at San Diego State. Although he was considered a top-100 prospect in the 2020 Major League Baseball draft by some sources, he ultimately went unselected due to reportedly demanding a high signing bonus. Subsequently, he decommitted from San Diego State and enrolled at Long Beach City College to maintain eligibility for the 2021 draft. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Long Beach City College canceled its baseball season, leading Tiedemann to transfer to Golden West College.
During his time at Golden West College, Tiedemann demonstrated his skills on the mound, posting a 3.55 earned run average with 60 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched as a freshman. This performance caught the attention of scouts, and in the 2021 Major League Baseball draft, he was selected in the third round by the Toronto Blue Jays. Upon joining the Blue Jays organization, he was recognized as their top-ranked left-handed pitching prospect heading into the 2022 season.
At the start of the 2022 season, Tiedemann was assigned to the Dunedin Blue Jays in the Single-A Florida State League, where he excelled with a 3-0 record, 1.80 ERA, an .800 WHIP, and 49 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched across six starts. His outstanding performance earned him a promotion to the Vancouver Canadians in the High-A Northwest League.
Tiedemann's impressive skills were further highlighted when he was selected to participate in the prestigious 2022 All-Star Futures Game. Following the All-Star break, he received a second promotion to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in the Double-A Eastern League.
As the season progressed, Tiedemann reached his innings limit and was shut down on September 2. Nevertheless, he concluded the year with notable achievements, including a 54 win-loss record, a 2.17 ERA, and 117 strikeouts in 78 innings pitched.
