In last nights game versus the Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles Catcher, James McCann suffered a horrific injury after taking a fastball to the face.
Despite being struck with a high 90's fastball to the nose, McCann shrugged it off, put some bandages on his face and continued to play.
After getting drilled by a fastball to the face and gushing blood everywhere, James McCann stayed in the game.
The pitch came from Blue Jays rookie, Yariel Rodrguez, who clearly was struggling with his command on the mound. When the bases were loaded in the first inning, he struck McCann dead in the face.
McCann commented on why he decided to stay in the game.
«I take pride in staying tough, doing what I can to stay on the field,» he said later Monday. «That's what I was able to do today.»
«At first, it's more scary than anything. It's like taking a pretty good right hook,» McCann said.
His teammates even taken to social media to praise him as being the toughest guy in baseball.
«I would go to war every single day for James McCann. But after seeing that, I am convinced that I would be absolutely useless to him,» injured Orioles pitcher Tyler Wells wrote in a social media post. «That's the toughest SOB I've ever met.»
«What a leader James McCann is,» Eflin said. «I don't think I've ever seen anything like that on a baseball field. I just became his number 1 fan. To be able to go through that and stay in the game, show the grit and determination he has, it's inspiring.»
