Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer has been dealing with a thumb injury over the last week and the team announce some massive progress this morning.
The Blue Jays announce update regarding Max Scherzer's recovery
The Blue Jays have been taking their time with Scherzer's recovery process as they do not want to rush things too quickly but at the same time they need him to be ready for Opening Day since they do not have any real back up options.
According to reporter Hazel Mae, Blue Jays manager John Schneider stated that Scherzer is set to throw today in practice and if everything goes well he will enter a game this weekend.
Max Scherzer (thumb) is going to throw today, «probably get off the mound.. slide into a game hopefully on the weekend,» according to John Schneider. Next steps again will all depend on how he feels the following day in his recovery. #BlueJays
Max Scherzer (thumb) will throw off a mound today at the complex. If all goes well, the #BlueJays hope to get him into a game this weekend.
Still a clear path there for him to be ready for the season, but they'll need to see how he recovers.
This is great news for the Blue Jays as they need Scherzerv back since they do not really have any depth for starting pitchers and if they need a replacement to start the season they will be in serious trouble.
Hopefully everything goes well on the mound today and this weekend but as manager John Schneider stated that it will all come down to how he feels the following day.
