Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been surrounded by trade talks this season as his contract is coming up and Toronto has failed to make an impact in the playoffs with him on their roster.
There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Guerrero this year but these rumors finally have some substance as MLB insider Bob Nightengale confirms that the Cubs have privately discussed acquiring Guerrero.
The #Cubs have privately discussed the possibility of pursuing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ahead of the trade deadline, per @BNightengale
Guerrero started off the season struggling but has since turned it around in a major way as he now has a .294 batting average with a .816 OPS, 7 homeruns and 30 RBIs in 245 at bats.
It will be interesting to see how GM Ross Atkins decides to approach the situation since the Cubs and Jays are in very similar positions right now and moving Guerrero could potentially be interesting for both team.
